Brief Biographical Sketch:

I study the kinetics of viral fusion in a biophysical chemistry lab. One hobby of mine is understanding the chemistry of cooking and baking. I love to experiment in the kitchen and the best part is you can eat your experiments!

Past Classes

C6156: Building Viruses: exploration of Icosahedral Viruses in Splash Fall 2017 (Nov. 11 - 12, 2017)
Explore the symmetry and structure of Icosahedral Viruses. Build paper models of common viruses to examine 3D capsid structure.

C5794: Chemistry of Food in Splash Spring 2017 (Apr. 22 - 23, 2017)
Learn about how chemistry is essential to cooking and tasting food. Why is food spicy? Why does jello jiggle? How do baked goods rise? How can we make substitutions for key ingredients?

C5252: Chemistry of Food in Splash Fall 2016 (Dec. 03 - 04, 2016)
Learn about the chemistry behind why food is spicy, how jello works, how bread rises and more.

P4829: Chemistry of Food in Splash Spring 2016 (Apr. 09 - 10, 2016)
Examine the Chemistry of Salsa. Why is it hot? Why don't some people like cilantro. We will explore interesting ways chemistry governs flavor and discuss how the structure of molecules governs flavor.

P4501: Fun with Chemistry! in Splash Fall 2015 (Nov. 07 - 08, 2015)
Chemistry is exciting and it happens all around us every day. In this class we will talk about the states of matter, a little about polymers (like plastics), and really anything else that gives us a chance to do cool demos for you all! You may get a chance to make a souvenir to take home, too. You'll just have to come and find out!
