Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hi! My name is Darrow. I'm a freshman at Stanford, studying computer science although my interests also include math, history, political science, and more! I grew up in the Bay Area (Menlo Park), although my family and I moved to Seattle during my sophomore year. On campus, I am part of the Stanford Space Initiative (SSI) and the Moonshot club, where I am working on a chocolate 3d printer! Aside from academics, I also like to work out and read.

M7995: The World Through Euler's Number in Splash Spring 2024 (May. 18 - 19, 2024)
Ever wondered how animal populations change over time? How a hurricane moves through a region? Or why heat dissipates over time? At the heart of all of these questions is Euler's number, $$e$$. The aim of this class is to understand why $$e$$ is important, why it appears everywhere, and why it is 2.718.... We will start with finding the value of $$e$$, look at how it is applied in math, and move our way up to proving "the most beautiful equation in math," $$e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0$$.
