Per-Grade Registration Capacity FAQs

  2. Can you make exceptions for advanced students? Why don’t you base class cutoffs on academic level instead of grade level?
  3. Won’t there be a certain number of students that register but don’t show up? Can you put me/my child on a waitlist?
  4. What if I just put down a different grade or make a new account with a different grade?

1. What is the per-grade registration capacity system?

Since Spring 2016 we have been measuring program capacity by grade (i.e. each grade has its own, independent capacity). This new implementation is a response to our varying class availability per grade, so this will better enable us to utilize class seats while ensuring that attending students can still obtain sufficiently full schedules. This means that we may close registration for certain grades before others, which will be clearly communicated through our website and registration forms. Please note: in order to minimize email correspondence, capacity notifications will not be sent to our mailing lists.

2. Can you make exceptions for advanced students? Why don’t you base class cutoffs on academic level instead of grade level?

Running a volunteer program with roughly 2000 students means we are unable to grant case by case exceptions for students that may be at an academic level beyond their grade. This includes students generally outside the grade range of the program and students in grades that have reached capacity for the program.

3. Won’t there be a certain number of students that register but don’t show up? Can you put me/my child on a waitlist?

Yes, it is correct that some students will register now but will later decide not to attend, so we have taken this into account when calculating the grade capacities (using the attendance statistics from previous programs). Therefore, we are not maintaining a waitlist.

4. What if I just put down a different grade or make a new account with a different grade?

Doing this could jeopardize your ability to participate in this program and in future programs. We check for duplicate accounts with different grades, and we check for student grade/age at check-in. If we determine that you have misrepresented your grade and/or age on the website in order to register, then you will be unable to participate in the event as well as all future Splash events. If you have accidentally set an incorrect grade or age, please contact us.
