R2006: Fiction Writing: Constructing New Worlds in Splash! Spring 2012 (Apr. 21 - 22, 2012)
When writing fiction, the possibilities are truly infinite. Your blank page is just that – blank – and it's your job to build a world with characters and action. Wielding such power is both liberating and terrifying, and if you're a writer, it's your way of life. This class will be primarily a basic introduction to fiction writing, with a LOT of practice prompts/activities just to get you all writing. A special focus will be given to the construction of new worlds, including a) discussion of fantasy/sci-fi/other stories that transport readers to a new place, time, or even mental state, b) collaborative thinking to determine what it takes to build a new world, and, of course, c) some practice with building your own worlds.

R1763: Fiction Writing: Imagination Meets the Page in Splash! Fall 2011 (Oct. 29 - 30, 2011)
Everyone has a story to tell, be it big or small, long or short, happy or sad. This course will help launch you into the process of writing fiction. You will learn techniques to develop characters, conflict, and overall story. Most importantly, you will be writing –a lot!
