Educational Mission:

Education for students, by students. Splash aims to broaden the academic horizons of students in grades 7-12 by providing them with a diverse choice of classes taught by dedicated volunteers. All of our volunteer teachers have demonstrated their curiosity for the world around them by pursuing degrees at the undergraduate level and beyond. We believe the best teachers remain ardent students. These unconventional teachers teach their passions, and in turn inspire young minds to expand and pursue their own educational goals.

We are currently seeking to expand our outreach to underserved students in the Bay Area. We believe these students can be inspired to greater achievements by exposing them to teachers passionately pursuing their own educations.

More about Splash:

Our volunteer teachers come from the Stanford community - undergraduates, graduate students, and other community members - who want to teach their interests to others. This means that Splash offers students an unprecedented number of class options. Stanford Splash has run 8 of Splash events during the past 4 years. Our teachers have taught thousands of classes to thousands students. As our program grows, we hope Stanford Splash will play a greater role in supporting the Bay Area student community. Splash is a non-profit organization run by volunteer students and community members. Our program is funded by the Associated Students of Stanford University and the Graduate Student Council as well as by a minimal attendance fee of $40 per student. We waive the attendance fee and provide a free lunch for students with financial difficulties.

While our Splash executives comprise an excellent team, Splash could not be successful without volunteer teachers, Bay Area schools and organizations, interested parents, and most importantly - students. If you are interested in recruiting students from your middle or high school to attend Splash, we would greatly value your support. Contact us at stanfordesp@gmail.com

Variety and Experimentation

If you feel that you cannot get out of bed in the morning without a cup of coffee, then why not teach others about coffee cultivation and the fascinating process by which it finally gets into your morning cup! If it’s not the lack of coffee, but the subtleties of general relativity that tease you in the morning, then why not convey the same enthusiasm (and frustration) to a bunch of eager young high school students? Teach anything. Do anything. Just convey enthusiasm, innovation and passion.
