Major: Genetics

College/Employer: Stanford

Year of Graduation: N/A

Picture of Chao Jiang

Brief Biographical Sketch:

I am currently a post-doctoral researcher working at the Department of Genetics, School of Medicine, Stanford University. Over the course of my academic life, I developed strong interests in very diverse topics including evolution, microbiology, developmental biology, microbiome, bioinformatics and genomics. I seek to understand the role of environmental exposures in shaping human health and environments in general, how diverse species become what they are over evolutionary history, and how the knowledge can be used to the benefits of human and environment.

B6573: The Tree of Everything - Do all species share the same common ancestor? in Splash Fall 2018 (Dec. 01 - 02, 2018)
All living species today share the same common ancestor, or so you were told at school (hopefully). What evidences, besides the "unreliable" fossil records, do we scientist have to support this? The secret lies in the essence of all living species on earth (and maybe somewhere else in the universe, we are not sure yet) -- the DNA.
