B6783: Brain Myth Busters in Splash Fall 2018 (Dec. 01 - 02, 2018)
Do you really only use 10% of your brain? Are larger brains smarter brains? Do you perceive the world as it really is? The human brain is a remarkably complex organ, which is still poorly understood. In this class we will take a closer look at popular myths about the human brain and try to distinguish truth from fiction. After a short introduction, in small groups, students will research a myth and try to figure out where does it come from, what evidence is there in support of or contradicting the myth, what is the kernel of truth, and why does the myth remain so popular? In the end, we will reconvene in the larger class and each group will share their newly gained insight.
